Traditional Techniques with a Modern Twist

H. Lorenzo is well-known as “the” spot for the finest in cutting edge, forward-thinking fashion. We are proud to feature H. Lorenzo and H. Men at Sunset Plaza in West Hollywood. They carry established labels as well as up and coming designers from all around the world.

One of their latest featured designers, Molly Goddard, boasts 14 impressive exhibitions and awards over the past three years! We would like to share more about her story and work with you in celebration of Wonderful Women Wednesday.

Molly Goddard was born in London in 1988. In 2009, she began her formal education in fashion techniques by tackling a BA in Fashion Knitwear in Central St. Martins, London.

After graduating in 2012, she continued her education, earning an MA in Fashion Knitwear in 2014. Since then, she has been working and living in Ladbroke Grove, London.

Over the past 3 years, she has attracted many an eye with her use of traditional techniques that incorporate a modern twist. Her work touches upon themes of special occasions, nostalgia and coming of age, often taking inspiration from party dressing and Sunday best.

Molly Goddard specializes in traditional hand-craft techniques such as hand pleating, smocking and crocheting. The techniques that she utilizes serve to create clothes that are both delicate and fragile, but the character she designs for conflicts with the beauty of her technique and brings a clumsy and charming awkwardness to her silhouettes and fabric combinations.

Her collections are held in some of the most prestigious stockists worldwide including Dover Street Market, Trading Museum Comme des Garcons, I.T, Browns, Boon the Shop and Club 21 and won British Emerging Talent award at the 2016 Fashion Awards.

Frills are the look of the season, and Goddard is the master. Since setting up her label in 2014, Goddard’s brightly colored tulle and silk smock dresses – often using up to 30 meters of fabric – have quickly become a trademark, one that fashion insiders instantly recognized on both a creative and commercial level.

This 28-year-old’s story is almost as striking and impressive as her designs! Enjoy browsing more of her collection, and feel free to stop by H. Lorenzo to try on one for yourself!
